Harry Gregg Foundation League Fixture 06/10/18 JM Academy vs Portrush
JM Academy 4-4 Portrush
JM Academy played host to Portrush this morning at Ballysally, the seasiders travelled up the road to a cold but sunny Coleraine. This fixture had all the ingredients to be a cracker as both teams were looking for their first points of the season as they clashed in a feisty but competitive game.
Portrush got the game underway trying to pluck gaps within our shape, but we stood firm with brilliant interceptions from our back four Lee Farrell, Kyle Buck, Adam Dickson and Zac Waddell.
JM took the lead with a great passing display down the right hand side from Matthew Templeton and Lee Nicholl, a fantastic ball through the middle of the P'Rush defenders from Matthew who played Jamie Downey clean through in which the wee man never fails (1-0)
Portrush grew into the game and through some great passing play from them, they scored two great goals, the desire and commitment from our boys was on display as we then went level from a great strike from open play from Lee Nicholl.
The message from the coaching team to the players was to get into the faces of the Portrush team and in which they did!!!
The second half started, We were on the front foot for most of the second half, there was a brilliant display of football from our boys in the second half, we are starting to gel as a team and we are playing some stuff.
Portrush countered our back line and scored another two goals within the final 20 minutes of the game, our players didn't give up and never stop playing.
JM Academy continued to press the seasiders back line, with some quick passing play (We upped the tempo at this point) Lee Nicholl had a clean shot at goal that rattled the post from open play.
Travis Stalford pulled one back from a clinical finish which left the Portrush GK with no chance. We continued to play great football in which resulted in a Jamie Downeys Free kick clipping the crossbar.
Chances after chances weren't taken this morning and it was just a matter of time before we found the equalizing goal. Lee Farrell's outstanding pass which left Lee Nicholl ONLY one option to cross the ball back post to an unmarked Jack Embleton who equalized with a great finish
MOTM - Split Between Lee Nicholl & Lee Farrell
JM Academy Chairman Jordan Moffett said "These boys have been playing outstanding at training, we tried different scenarios on the training pitch to transition from defending to attacking positions on the field which in my eyes was the final piece in the puzzle today. We have had a tough season with strong opponents but the desire today couldn't be faulted. I couldn't ask anymore of my players, they were fantastic. I would like to wish Portrush the very best for the upcoming matches"
